History

acquiring first hand experiences in the art world in London in the swinging 80ies and encountering the young British artists Kai Hilgemann opened his first gallery exhibition space 1993 in Linienstrasse in Berlin Mitte in a time after the German unification when Berlin turned into one of the most exciting cultural cities in Europe attracting artists and creative people from all over the world.

In 2003 he moved his gallery to a large 250 sqm factory space in Zimmerstrasse close to Checkpoint Charlie, a true hot spot with neighbouring galleries such as Max Hetzler, Matthias Arndt, Claes Nordenhake, Aeneas Bastian, Volker Diehl and Martin Klosterfelde.

Over the years he gained a strong experience in international art dealings, taking part in artfairs in Basel, Berlin, Cologne, Madrid, Moscow and New York staging exhibitions with works from art legends and blue chip artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Tony Oursler, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Jeff Koons, Daniel Buren, David Medalla as well as a stable of emerging and mid career artists like John Aslanidis, Per Berntsen, Katrin Korfmann, Liv Mette Larsen, Anton Lamazares, Peter and Torsten Ruehle, Jan Smejkal, Bosco Sodi, Stephen Wilks, Xawery Wolski among many others.

Late 2013 Kai Hilgemann paused his public gallery endeavour supporting his fathers Park Avenue Sculpture Project in NYC in person and moreover spending some exciting time in this fascinating metropolis. The public Sculpture Project in Manhattan actually took place from June til November 2014 and signified a wonderful challenge for the artist, the family and its supporters generating great connections in the art world and successful business results in the promotion and sales of Ewerdt Hilgemann's unique sculptures.

Since September 2015 Kai Hilgemann is operating his art affairs from a private showroom in a charming former artist studio with 4.60 m high ceilings and great light in Berlin Kreuzberg.

The changing exhibitions of carefully selected artworks by various contemporary artists represent a very personal statement and offer a true experience of 20th and 21st century art.
